ReGen Buipe
ReGen Buipe is Our Planet Our Future’s first Project in Ghana. ReGen Buipe aims to restore approximately 85,000 hectares of degraded Savannah woodland to sequester atmospheric carbon, restore ecosystem services, and improve community livelihoods using afforestation, reforestation, bamboo corridors, rotational grazing, rangeland management, and agroforestry practices.
Our Planet Our Future has signed a 40 year agreement with Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, the Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area. ReGen Buipe utilizes a collaborative approach by engaging key stakeholders – including Community Members, Traditional and Faith Leaders, Government agencies, development partners, and local NGOs – in planning, implementing, and monitoring the Project.
Uncontrolled fire is the dominant ecological threat in the Northern Savannah Zone, driving carbon loss, biodiversity decline, and soil degradation. ReGen Buipe addresses this through an innovative fire-management and regeneration strategy that reduces fire frequency and intensity, enabling assisted natural regeneration and long-term resilience.
Other innovations at scale include rotational grazing, bamboo corridors, and elephant grass firebreaks. Biodiversity gains will restore 20,000 hectares of critical Savannah habitat, including elephant migration corridors.
The community-first approach of the Project represents one of the highest benefit-sharing models in the voluntary carbon market, setting a benchmark for equitable climate finance.
Key Partners in Ghana
Our Planet Our Future’s Ghana Team is made up of experienced professionals who bring deep understanding of the land, people, and systems that shape Ghana’s Northern Savannah. They translate vision into practice — ensuring every step taken is grounded in local realities and community priorities.
Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II is Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area. He ascended as Paramount Chief of Buipe in 2008. During his tenure, he has emphasized peace, traditional culture, and development in his area. He has been active in advocating for infrastructure, youth empowerment, and development in the Buipe area and wider Savannah region. In November 2024, he was elected Vice President of the National House of Chiefs in Ghana.
Bernard Zan is a consultant, entrepreneur, and investor with a background in law and agricultural science. His work is focused on sustainable development, leveraging nature-based solutions to address environmental challenges. Bernard is Our Planet Our Future’s Country Director in Ghana.
Dr. Lucy Amissah is a Principal Research Scientist at the CSIR-Forestry Research Institute of Ghana. Her area of specialization includes forest ecology, plant ecology, biodiversity, and forest conservation.
Vincent Awotwe-Pratt is a conservation leader and sustainable development strategist. He is co-founder and Director of Technical Operations at Advocates for Biodiversity Conservation playing a leading role in the organization’s program design, strategy, and technical work.
ReGen Mwenda Chiefdom
In 2025 Our Planet Our Future has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Zambia and Caritas Zambia. ReGen Mwenda Chiefdom, Out Planet Our Future’s first project in Zambia, is being designed to turn restoration into reality across 90,000 hectares of land.
ReGen Madagascar
ReGen Madagascar is a Regeneration Development Project originated by Our Planet Our Future across 50,000 hectares of degraded land in the Ambalavao District of Madagascar, in partnership with the University of Fianarantsoa and 19 participating communes.
